Create Load Panels on Grid Planes

If a floor is modelled as a rigid diaphragm it is useful to be able to apply loads in a convenient way. This can be achieved in different ways but one method is to create load panels

Definition

Grid planes and tolerance

The grid planes are used to define the floors, but to ensure that the correct beam elements are considered there are three options

  • all elements – picks up any beam elements that lie within the given tolerance of the grid planes
  • element on grid surface – the grid surfaces on the grid planes are used and the elements considered are those that exist on the grid surface
  • element list – this is similar to the first option with the exception that only the elements in the selected list are considered

2D Property

Choose either an existing property to assign to the mesh or create a new 2D property.

Note: This tool can only create load panels defined by 3 or 4 nodes. Load panel elements created this tool may not be compatible with one-way or two-way spanning load panel properties.
