Damping wizard

Modal analysis is carried out ignoring damping, however much of the dynamic post-processing relies on damping to get a solution.

Definition

Damping Option

The critical damping ratio options are

Constant – a constant damping ratio is specified which is used for all modes

Damping vs Frequency – the damping ratio is calculated for the required frequency by interpolation from the specified frequency/damping table. If the frequency is outside the range defined in the table the damping ratio of the nearest end value is used.

Damping vs Mode – the damping ratio for the mode is determined from the specified mode/damping table. For modes not defined in the table the standard damping ratio will be used.

Modal (material) Damping – the damping ratios calculated for the material in a modal dynamic analysis are used. If the damping ratio is not available from a modal dynamic analysis, the analysis cannot be carried out.
